THE BEST SELECTION OF LODGES ON THE UPPER, MIDDLE AND LOWER ZAMBEZI |

WE CATER FOR ALL FISHING STYLES: SPINNING, TROLLING, BAIT AND FLY! |

This date will be forever etched in my mind, I hatched a plan to fly up to Livingstone on Nationwide, rent a car and shoot up to this new lodge I had heard about near the village of Mwandi. The idea was to have a quick squizz (we call it a site inspection) and then shoot back to Livingstone to watch the game. |

The drive took an hour and a half, yes I can hear you all saying impossible but back then the road was in good nick and I was driving a rental 😉. On arrival, I entered the main area and to be frank was amazed by this stunning structure in the middle of nowhere, a combination of a “gentleman’s colonial club meets fishing camp”, it was perfect and in 18 years the lodge retains its winning formula, it has not changed.
A quick look around and I decided this would be the camp to seriously launch TigerFishingZambezi and offer it to our growing list of clients demanding a tiger experience. Back then a few intrepid clients had discovered this new camp so I had some intel that the fishing was good, very good. |

The trick was to now package, arrange logistics and offer to our clients in Rand and at an affordable level, which we did and still do. I probably spent about 30 mins looking around and checking boats etc, not even time for a bite… a special game of rugby beckoned and I had to dash back to Livingstone to watch SA thrash England. Now as anyone will tell you Livingstone is one of the last bastions of the “British Empire” and the pub was full of poms proudly wearing white 02 branded rugby jerseys. I was severely outnumbered and the glares from the somewhat red faced English could be felt as we proceed to teach England a lesson, what an end to a perfect day! |

Shackletons has a special place for us and stalwart owner Howard still runs a tight ship. Yes the road has its ups and downs and is on the agenda to be properly sorted but what’s at the end is worth the potholes and donkeys! Our long term employee Victor negotiates it with skill and humour and never fails to answer the “how long now?” questions with grace and a smile. The fishing is still awesome and the food and lodging have set the bench mark for others. |
